I'd like to ask a couple of questions regarding the pedal markings in the score found here. Do we play this piece without pedal after the 13th measure (up to the 24th measure) as indicated? I read somewhere that Chopin was very strict and precise about his pedal indications. Or is it implied that we continue pedalling since the structure of the next 12 measures is quite similar to the first 12? I'm relearning piano on my own at the moment and I felt it sound a little strange when I stopped pedalling altogether after the 13th measure. I listened to the mp3s on this site and they sounded as if the performers pedalled throughout the entire piece. Any input will be much appreciated. Thank you.
I think it's an error in your score. Or rather an omission. In my Paderewski Edition, bar 13 has a pedal marking and then the word simile, which means to keep pedaling as before.
