As some members may recall, my initial account of the WTC--many, many years ago now--gave rise to some controversy here. It was performed on a "piano sample" and was heavily sequenced, which is to say, edited by computer. Since that time I purchased a Hailun 218, a wonderful piano if properly tuned and regulated; but I continued to work on a "sequenced" version of the WTC. I could not, for the life of me, come up with anything on the Hailun that compared with my sequenced efforts. Here, then, with that very brief introduction, is what represents the current state of the technology, using in this instance the "Hans Zimmer Piano" sample, which is a real piano of course, but one each note of which has been sampled (in other words recorded by microphones) using a Hamburg Steinway. I'm not at all sure of the year the Steinway was made, and the company does not say anything about the microphones they used to record it. Alas. All 48 preludes and fugues from Book "1" and from Book "2" of J. S. Bach's "Well-tempered Clavier" performed and sequenced using the Hans Zimmer Piano sample: https://soundcloud.com/johnlgrant/albums
My wtc books 1 and 2 are very close to complete. Started this as a "fun" project, post attempting to record this at my piano (a Hailun 218, which I like very much--most of the time); but I was very unhappy with the results. These are completely and utterly MIDI edited, and therefore would not be permitted at the Society. They are, I think you will find, VASTLY superior to the set I was allowed to upload here years ago. The project has in fact been very useful to my own playing at the piano. I hope these links work. I DON'T get paid for these, so I very much hope that Soundcloud doesn't clutter the site with adds. book 2 https://on.soundcloud.com/aas5s book 1 https://on.soundcloud.com/hVKkr
