Hi, guys! I'm new, in case you didn't know. I decided spur-of-the-moment to return to school about a month ago (after nine years), and as soon as I got my re-admission letter, I wrote a piano prof to let her know I was a returning student (my old prof has retired), and she told me that I should audition for a scholarship, in two weeks! I didn't want to play anything I had played before, so I picked: Bach, Prelude in B-flat Minor, WTC I Chopin, Prelude in C-sharp Minor, Op. 45 Debussy, Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum I figured I could work these up fairly easily in two weeks. So, I went for a preliminary lesson with the prof last week, and she gave me the Bach fugue (B-flat Minor WTC I, of course) to do also, and postponed my audition until May 7 so that I could work it up. I had never tried that one before, either (or even heard it, really) but I can play it now - I only have to finish memorizing it (it's about 60-70% memorized now). Right now I am trying some strange alternate fingerings on the Debussy so that when I go back to the regular fingerings, it is much easier - this is helping me clean it up. I hope to get some recording equipment so that I can add the Chopin Prelude to the site - I see that this one is missing!
Welcome ! This is just the site for renegade pianists  Check out the threads about the Edirol recording gadget if you don't know what to get.
Ha! I probably can't afford that right now, so I will have to try to get with some friends that have recording equipment (and nice stuff, too). That might be hard, though, since we all have busy and usually conflicting schedules, but I will make an effort.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeee Just wanted to post that the audition went great and I got the top scholarship for piano.
Hey, great to hear and welcome to PS. Seems like I missed your entrance last time. What does the scholarship include?
Well, the piano department is only allotted so much scholarship money, and the max they can give out to one undergrad per year is just enough to cover my tuition. I will have to cover the rest with grants and such, but that shouldn't be a problem.
