I trust that this is more than good enough (as your earlier work-in-progress probably already was) for the site. I've already tagged and uploaded. The site pages will be updated later. As for the tags you left out the composer and the http:// in the "Album" tag. One day you'll do them perfectly ;-)

Whom are you masterclassing with ?

Ah, didn't think of the http prefix!

The work-in-progress was much less tidy and I'm glad I didn't submit it as this is significantly better. I'm not sure if it's technically a masterclass - there is one-to-one tuition as well as playing in class. Anyway, it's with my regular if intermittent teacher, Kenneth van Barthold (pupil of Yves Nat at the Paris Conservatoire, recorded Chopin etc. for Decca) who by now may view my apparently relentless diet of paraphrases with a certain resigned acceptance :)

Not that it matters. It's just the principle - people need to do it *right*.

As do we, Andrew, as do we. Some things will never change :)
Anyway, he sounds like a great teacher. An interesting person, and half Dutch to boot. He must be way in his nineties, right ?

Late eighties, actually. It's interesting to work with someone steeped in the traditions of early 20th century French pianism (and also an expert on Baroque ornamentation). As he was also a music presenter for the BBC, he also interviewed lots of famous people like Argerich, Boulez etc and has lots of amusing anecdotes.

This is on the site now, Andrew. I can't listen to it right now because I'm at work. I'll try do so tonight, though.

    Thanks, Monica.

YT link (audio+sheet music, and their automated algorithm inevitably thinks I'm copying someone else's "composition" due to Casta diva being in there! Oh the irony, as their composition probably ripped off Casta diva in the first place..)

    Hi Andrew,

I just listened to Reminiscences of Norma. That's a long and difficult transcription to play. Sounds great!

Thanks David. It's really rather Lisztian in nature, possibly slightly derivatively so in places, but I think it's rather a effective paraphrase on account of its varying and contrasting moods.

    Hi Andrew,
an excellent performance of a quite unknown transcription (at least for me). An expressive and musical playing. There is a small lack of concentration in bar 6 of the Andante con gran espressione (wrong bass note), but that´s very likeable! Continue so! :D

Thanks Andreas. There are a few small details where I've not absolutely at one with the score (there's one place where I think I've subconsciously replaced the lh in the composer's bar with the parallel from the Liszt Norma), but it is easy for such things to happen in live performance!

Of course, and I would like to repeat that I find this normal and likeable. From my view you are a true musician with great musicality. That is what counts! It's not necessary to be perfect like a machine. That's inhuman and so this can't be the sense of music, because music essentially is human.
I'm looking forward to your next recording!
