Moritz Moszkowski wrote a large number of salon pieces of the better quality. Musically and technically more interesting than the average romantic salon repertoire, these works offer a welcome alternative to the standard romantic virtuoso repertoire. All these works are characterized by felicitous melodious invention, coupled with expertly pianistic writing. Mozskowski's music needs a fluent dexterity rather than high-octane bravura.
