Here is a poem I wrote based off the piece by Tchaikovski which Chris and Monica have both played well. Chris your version seems to swing along and Monica your interpretation is that of a slower gait. Both enjoyable. Here is the poem:

The Italian Ditty

I once heard a piece

called, “The Italian Ditty.”

It's written by Tchaikovsky--

and sounds quite witty.

if you hear it you might like it,

so give it a try.

What is the worst that can happen?

“I don’t like it!” You cry.

Very good! For the worse, it's as simplistic as what I just wrote, but for the better, a nice (albeit minor) addition.

The only thing I would change is the title, from the word "ditty," to "song."

It is true, this piece is not very long! In fact, were you going for saying this to draw attention to the fact that the poem is not long either? If so, that's a stroke of genius..

Maybe you should write my book, you could be a ghostwriter

Haha, very inventive. It's called Italian Ditty in my Peters score. The original title is Chanson Italienne, so I guess Italian Song is the better translation.

The poem rather rambles rhythmically. To correct that I would suggest following streamlined version

I once heard a piece called
Italian Song
Composed by Tchaikovsky
It's not very long
I think you'll enjoy it
So give it a try
The worst that can happen ?
"Don't like it !" you cry

Definitely my stroke of genius...

Very good, Chris. I can say yours in 2/4, my original was more about rhyming the end of every other stanza instead of something that works on a rhythmic level. And now that I think about this more, it actually makes a lot more sense. You tell someone that you heard a piece called "Italian Song" and that they will enjoy it. I'm picturing some opera fan expecting great things--to be serenaded by a lovely frotolla sung in no less but the bel canto style--think Michele Pesenti. Then they hear this little piano opuscule that's half trite and mostly repetitive and they cry "DON'T LIKE IT!!!" and rip their headphones off before the "Song" is ended.
