Thank you for listening, Heather, Stu, and Riley. I just don't like 'seeing' myself very much and felt that maybe everybody else was getting tired of seeing me here in the Audition Room too. So thank you very much for the kind words!
@Heather - I listen to classical piano music everyday and also attend quite a few piano concerts. If I hear a piece that grabs me, I rush home to get the music and put it up on my piano. I love that part - especially if the music is satisfying all the way to the end after I've read through it the first time. If so, then that's my next piece to learn. The time it takes me to learn all the way depends if I want to memorize it or not. I know this sounds pretty vain, but on some of my videos I want to be seen playing without my glasses on. But that means I have to memorize the music. Although there was one time with one my four-hand collaborations where I had music up on the stand and it looked like I was reading off it, but I wasn't. I actually couldn't see a single note because I didn't have my glasses on, I was just faking it....haha..but the other person had music on the stand and so I had to, as well. Other than that, one thing I've learned over these years is that when I think I'm ready to record something, I should put that thought aside and wait another week. The recording always comes out better. Although I still get impatient many times and record too soon - then I usually have to re-do it....grrr...
So anyway, I practice every day. At night about 1 1/2 hours, and several hours on weekends. Unfortunately, once I record something, I forget it shortly thereafter. I sure wish my brain was big enough to keep everything in there indefinitely!
@Stu - What you say here about Mompou -
"knack for getting new timbre's for the piano is really something" is interesting. Not too long ago, I didn't like music filled with as much dissonances as what is in this particular set. Although these pieces are pretty short, they weren't easy for me to learn because I had to check every single chord to see if they were right (they didn't sound right to me....at first). Then after awhile, I'd be practicing one of the pieces and I'd make a mistake on one of the harsh dissonant chords, but my ear would catch the mistake because it sounded wrong in the wrong way, versus wrong in the right way. Not sure if that makes sense.... But I think learning this music somehow trained my ears to accept dissonant music more.
@Riley - Yes, there are some very dark pieces in the set, but then there are some exquisitely beautiful ones too. Those are later on in the 4th book. And actually, this set is not that large of a chunk. I think Mompou's Cancion y Danzas is the largest set. Although I could be wrong - maybe his Preludes is...I've never listened to them before. But also I think his Variations on a theme by Chopin, while not larger than the Cancion y Danzas, is fairly long too and is also a terrific set!
Funny - you listening to the whole set while sleeping - don't blame me if you get awakened abruptly and/or have strange dreams.
