Many of our pianists use handy MP3-recorders which are very easy to operate. They record directly to MP3-format (optional to WAV) then you copy/move the recording to the computer using USB and upload it to this forum in a separate topic. Several recordings can be put into a single post with the maximum limit of 250 MB in total.

If you are looking for an wav/mp3 editing software, one example I use is Audacity which can be downloaded from:

You need the LAME library to be able to extract a file in mp3-format. The lame_enc.dll should be copied to the first level of the Audacity directory at your installation and can be downloaded from:

If you want to install extra effects, I can highly recommend the GVerb as reverb (which is probably the only effect you need, perhaps also an Equalizer). But first, you need to install the VST enabler from:

Another recommendation: importing MP3 to most audio editors and re-exporting to MP3 means your audio gets reencoded lossily, reducing sound quality. If you record direct to MP3 and want only to chop off blank space before and after a good recording, use a specialized tool like mp3splt.

So if anyhow possible and if there is editing necessary like cutting out the piece, adding reverb or normalization to proper output level, one should better record in wav format, and transform to mp3 only at the end. Instead to record with mp3, because the mp3 recalculation looses audio informations.

In Beirut-Lebanon there is not in market handy MP3-recorders, I like to know the price of it.

You can buy a handy mp3 recorder (Roland Edriol r09) for about $300 USD. But it will be hard(er) for you to find a seller who will ship it to Ber.-Leb.

Yes, I use Audacity to edit but I have file format converters like Smart Audio Pro which converts files to Mp3. I also use a Digital Voice Recorder to record if the recorderings are not being professional done.

Someone mentioned recently a recorder (I think) that was cheaper and even nicer than the Edirol that you guys use. What was it? My mom is thinking of getting me a recorder for my birthday, and then all I will be waiting for to start recording is to get back up to school to record on the nice Steinway concert grand there. (I'm home for the summer.)

Yes, the recorder is "Zoom".
musicusblau and I use Zoom H4 (but musicusblau uses a very expensive external mic extra), and StuKautsch has Zoom H2.
I don't have Edirol, therfore I can't compare them. And only those who have both of them can compare in a right way, because we all have different pianos, different rooms (and also different effects, even though I've never used the "reverb" yet - I couldn't find the right one among the vast kinds of them!).

Sorry, but this is not exactly the right place to put this. You should start a new topic in the Audition Room with the title, "Beethoven - Sonata Op. 106"

Also, I'm guessing that since this file is huge, that all movements are in one file, and we need the movements to be separated. You are going to have to learn how to use an editing program so you can do this, plus edit out more than a few seconds of applause.

So please separate the file and resubmit in the Audition Room under a new topic. If you have trouble deleting your file here, I can do it later.
