A recording I found on an old hard drive which might be of interest. It's a dry run live recording from 2005 from a point at which I was rather foolishly attempting to learn the entire Symphonie as a projected "big piece" for a public recital; ultimately I'm afraid the fourth movement defeated me.

Alkan - Etude in F Minor, Op. 39, No. 5

Nice playing ! This may be one of Alkan's more accessible 'big' pieces but still not easy to bring off convincingly. I like how you make the gorgeous middle section bloom in the between these eerie outer sections. The ending is really effective too. So this one IS intended for putting on the site, or are you just posting for curiosity again ?

The middle section gives the lie to the myth that Alkan couldn't "do" lyricism. Absolutely; this one is a submission. I did the tags on it, hopefully correctly!

I listened to your Alkan piece and believe the quality of your performance to be very high. Wonderful playing throughout. Most of all, I enjoyed the middle section as it's very lyrical. I'm glad it's been archived on the site for you.
