Hi friends,
I know, it has nothing to do with piano and so may be it´s not the right place to put this thread on a site called "pianosociety". But since here are also some threads of a more private character, I have thought, may be there is someone, who likes also guitar-recordings, and I have an opportunity to picture myself as a (minor) guitarist to my friends here.
Guitar is only my second instrument. I had to study it as a minor at university, because every music-high-school-teacher has to study two instruments here. (Guess, what was my main-instrument?! The fiddle? )But it was my first instrument, I have started to learn in the age of seven. Piano I started to learn only with 12 years. Actually I´m not practising too much on guitar, but spend nearly all my time to practise piano. But now it came, that my mother wished some guitar-pieces played by me for her birthday tomorrow. So, I thought, it would be a good practise-possibility and an interesting experience to do some guitar-recordings (also from the editing-view). So, I have learned really a lot by doing them.

(So, Chris, refering to your last pm, I have to say, that there are no hot folk-rhythms for you, alas! Though the piece of Leo Brower has some typical latin-rhythms like 3+3+2 and variations of them. )

OMG, Andreas - that's wonderful! I love guitar music! You play very well too. Really - I loved it!

Flute is my second instrument, but guitar is my third. Except I can only play three pieces right now. I have been wanting to learn more for a long time, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Was the bach/lute suite transcribed from lute to guitar? If so, who did the transcribing?

Is it common to play music for the lute on the guitar?

thank you very much for your interest and your kind comment. I´m glad you also like my guitar-recordings. So, when do I see your flute-videos here? (I´m just joking, knowing that you are a "piano"-lady and not a "flute"-lady, whereas I´m a "musicus"-blau, which includes guitar and piano, logical, isn´t it? )

The suites for lute are original-compositions of Bach. I´m playing a transcription for guitar by Karl Scheit. Lute and guitar is nearly the same. The lute is bigger, has more strings and a bigger convexity.



Yes, it´s very common. Today only very few people play on historical lutes. Some famous guitarists have some re-buildings, f.ex. Andres Segovia and others.

um....Andreas...I was kidding a little bit about that. Yes, I can play the guitar but not nearly well enough to play a duet with you. For one thing, I need to build up callouses on my fingers because my guitar has metal strings and it hurts like hell when I play with 'soft' fingers. Do you know what I mean?

Plus, I can really only play chords. However, I can play Stairway to Heaven, a Pink Floyd song, and about two lines of that popular Albeniz piece, but that's about it.

O.k., Monica, don´t mention! It was just a request and I didn´t know, how well you play the guitar. Yes, I know what you mean with the metal-strings. I only use soft strings, never metal strings, because I play on a classical concert guitar, not Western or so. And for a pianist, metal strings are really not the best.

Lovely performances ! Your guitar playing is as solid and polished as your piano playing. I especially liked the Brouwer piece which you play with much flair. An interesting composer, which I'm sure must have Dutch ancestry (the name being thouroughly Dutct). It doesn't seem like he's written any piano music
The Dowland and Bach pieces are very tastefully done though the Bourree rather loses his dancing character at this slow tempo.

I am very envious of you being able to play the classical guitar. I love that instrument and have always wanted to play it. Too late to start now, and too little time.
