Hey! I'm new to the site, but I've been composing professionally, and for fun, for a few years now, and my girlfriend has been goating me about letting people hear some of my stuff. Soooo, here it is, I wrote this nocturne in G Flat Major. I hope you guys enjoy it.

It's pretty much the only musical piece I've ever programmed (I sent the file and program to her for an anniversary):

The two young lover's arrival to the park is announced by stately chords(0:00-0:11). They have expected a quiet, and romantic evening to converse, but are interrupted by flurries of snow, represented by piano flourishes in the high register(0:20). Three chords signal a cold gust of wind that freezes the young woman. (0:45). The winds majestically whip the couple around, until subsiding, and allowing them to meander through more rain drops (0:55-1:08). As the walk along through the ever increasing rain, a shift in temperature (1:34). The young man wraps his coat around his lover (1:51), and the two converse comfortably for awhile, until night falls; beautiful, and shaded (2:15). As the couple walks, the rain is now getting unbearable, and is coming from everyside, disrupting their walk (2:18). It momentarily stops (2:30), but this is just a precursor to the three chords signaling the same evil gust of wind (2:47). Now confidently pressing through the storm, they hold each other as it crashes against them, and once again slackens to a whisper. As the temperature falls, the rain is crystalized into snow, which falls on their shoulders (3:20). They share two kisses represented by falling thirds (3:39-3:44), and a hug, represented by a rising arpeggio (3:44), before heading back to their quarters.

You've been composing professionally but nobody's ever heard it ?

I can imagine your girlfriend being pleased with this one, perhaps invoking some fond memories. But really, even with the detailed program, there nothing to catch anyone's interest. I know beans about composing, but it seems to me that one needs at least one good, memorable tune, and then needs to do something interesting with it.

Sorry to be less than positive about your composition ! Maybe others will like it more.

It's ok, there's a reason I've never released this one, it's a bit too sentimental, romantic, and complicated melodically for casual perusal by non-composers.

I have good pianists to play these pieces, just sort of wondering how it would sound out of a European pianist, and this website seems like the place to come. Americans and Europeans seem to have different tastes though, and I understand it if you simply don't get it.

Hmm, I think this piece is maybe too long. I actually liked the first minute of it, but the rest of the piece is just the same endlessly repeated G-Flat.
The dramatic outburst, only part of the piece in which harmonies are interesting - well, a bit less boring - appears twice, between those two appearances is a long part in which actually nothing happens.

That there is not much melody... that is about taste. But if there is no melody, there has to be something else that attracts the listener. Sound, harmony, rhythm.
