Whenever I "submit" a response, I get this message:

Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 503 5.5.1 Error: authentication not enabled

DEBUG MODE

Line : 126
File : smtp.php

But I can still post replies. What does that mean?

I am getting that all the time as well. And then the darn thing has the nerve to tell me to be patient because I'm pressing the submit button too many times!

(I've notified the other admins.)

Except...well...strange, but my last two posts went through just fine. Did it just fix itself? But the post only ten minutes ago still 'complained'. Hmmm...

I have tried to dig into this problem but I have no solution so far. The SMTP function is for sending emails and if you get emails from posts in specific threads and the email function does not work, you will probably get this error message. Not sure why you get it other wise.
But also, it is no longer possible to register a new user at the forum. I get back when I have digged some more.

Robert, if this gives you a clue - I do not have emails sent to me regarding new posts.

I now know what the problems was and I have fixed it. Not sure if it means much to you but the forum mail daemon could not resolve the email server name localhost because of a local DNS problem. Please report any possible further problem on the topic.

It could be because of some a problem with some people's email accounts. In the past I got many messages about John Robson and Francois de Larrard not being reachable. Maybe only posts to which they have subscribed will give the error message. If that is so, they need to either fix their mail accounts, or disable 'Email notification' in their profile.

I just got the error message that Juuf pasted in his first post. But my post went through.

Yes the postings do get through. The problem happens AFTER the message has been posted, when the forum will try to send out notification emails. I still think it is a problem with some email accounts (even though these otherwise seem to work normally).

I'm not subscribed, and my email is active.
