The lovely pianist Monica
Would sometimes celebrate Hanukkah.
With her Jewish friend Ruth,
Who in sooth,
Could really play the harmonica!

This whole thing is moot.

But I sense a quoting contest in the making Let's see what the limit is in this version of PhpBB :)

Just received a cute quote:

Karl Barth's surmise: That while the angels may play only Bach in praising God, among themselves they play Mozart.

I have a lovely framed caligraphied parchment that claims the text to be "from a German Opera House" that says:

Bach gave us God's words
Mozart gave us God's laughter
Beethoven gave us God's fire
God gave us music that we could pray without words

Does anybody know if there is any truth to the claim of origin?

That's a nice one too. But all links for that quote point to the same German opera house, wherever that is....?

Having recently read about the pianist Ruth Laredo, Who was a good friend of my friend the late Leon Kirchner, I could not resist coming up with the following:

RUTH LAREDO

The lovely pianist Ruth,
Whose playing revealed the truth,
Of composers both great
And composers both small,
She really did justice to all!

Oh well, in that case a similar approach should take care of quite a few others:

2 (magic powers) wizzy goths
4 (effervescent) fizzy goths

Oh of course Monica; I forgot to credit you with guessing Dizzy Goths. Sorry! But I am still puzzled why you failed to understand Busy Goths. Why?

I just thought you wanted a 'real' kind of Gothic people, like one of the long-ago Goth tribes.

A SHAKESPEREAN MONICA

To be, or not to be,
In love with Lady Monica,
That is the question!
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer,
The slings and arrows of unfulfilled love,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them'
To die--to sleep,
To dream of Lady Monica!
"Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.
But then to wake, and be with her no more!
Ay, there's the rub!

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.
Grows Monica more lovely from day to day!
To the last syllable of recorded time,
The way to the lady's heart.
Out, out, oh Chopin!
Whose music Monica so dearly loves!
Life's but a musical tribute,
That has its hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. 'Tis a tale
Told by a piano lady
Full of sound and beauty,
Signifying,all that is wonderful!
