Postby hunwoo » Sat Oct 06, 2007 12:58 am

Hey guys I'm going to start teaching students soon but I need some advice from you people.
Can you give me some tips for teaching the piano?
And what are your experiences with this?

I've been teaching for 12 years. The best thing you can be (other than obviously knowledgeable) is kind and patient. No matter how much the rhythms are wrong and everything else may seem hopeless sometimes with some students, you must remain hopeful and positive toward the student, even if it is somewhat feigned. Always teach with positivity and encouragement, never with fear tactics, intimidation or humiliation.

One of my favorite sites on teaching is by Martha Beth Lewis, repected contributor to Clavier magazine. Google her and you will find the answer to any one of your questions you may ever have about teaching. If it's not there, she is known to answer e-mails in a day.

Best of luck!
