You’ll never believe what happened to me today. I was at my piano, practicing (duh), when I stood up to look inside my piano. One high note sounded off and I leaned over the music rack so that I could touch the strings. Suddenly, I smelled something burning, and much to my dismay it was my hair. It caught on fire! My piano light has halogen bulbs in it which I know are very hot because I’ve burned my fingers many times on them, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that they can catch a person’s hair on fire. But still! Now I have a chunk of hair that is short and the smell of burning hair lingers over my piano.

Yes, these halogen bulbs become inconceivably hot. I too have one at my digital piano and you can't even touch it when it's on for just half a second. Be aware, folks!

Whoa, Pianolady, glad it ended up alright. :D

Indeed those halogen bulbs can get extremely hot and become real fire hazards. :x

You're lucky because hair can burn very fast!

In my case, I use a neon close to the piano because I find it more relaxing for my eyes.

Also, when it's too hot during summer nights and since I couldn't stand additional heat from other types of bulbs, I would otherwise need to practice nekkies. 8)

Um... I don't really get what you're talking about here. Is that a French thing? Do you mean you practice with neck ties on? Or you 'neck' when your practicing? ( would fit with the 'hot' summer nights)

Don't worry. I've chalked them all up and I'll let you know when you reach 100

Was you playing some Scriabin pieces? Some persons who saw Scriabin concerts told that piano
seems to fly, and also to light the fire.
Another story : Jelly Roll Morton, and the string of his piano (after he played one of his "stomp")
that set fire to his big cigar.

All best,
Sandro
