I found this article interesting. It's about Classical Music and... You guessed it?! a curious parallel to wine tasting!

Here is the article:

I'm all for it! :D
And wouldn't it be great if they would let patrons sip wine while sitting in a concert? I know you can do that at outdoor concerts, but I don't think anywhere allows that at indoor venues.

That would be nice. Yeah, Ravinia, now that's a place to hear classical music, while enjoying some Gouda Cheese and Merlot. :)

Yes, Ravinia is what I was thinking of when I wrote that. :)

Chicagoans Represent! :P

I think the last time I went was back in middle school. Kind of nice sitting on the big green lawn sharing the space (and the music) with a bunch of people. I always was just on the lawn, never the bandshell part. And I think I listened to Emilylou Harris, she's not exactly associated with classical music..

Yes, Ravinia is a beautiful place for concerts. But it's been a while since I've been there too because it's difficult to get to from where I live. I think the last concert I saw there was Spyro Gyra (sp?)...a jazz group...probably before your time. Did you ever go to Poplar Creek? That wasn't as nice as Ravinia, but at least it was easy to get to. Except they tore it down and Sears headquarters is there now. :x

Yes, up in the north suburbs, it's not very convienent from where I lived either. I don't know about Spyro Gyra, sounds cool. About Poplar Creek, no I haven't been. Was it by Oakbrook Center? I only ask cause I know there's a Sears store there, hehe.

It was an outdoor concert venue in Hoffman Estates. A little like Alpine Valley up in Wisconsin. The last concert I saw there was Steely Dan.
Sears moved out of the Sears Tower in Chicago and built new buildings on the site where Poplar Creek was.

Oh, Hoffman Estates, I know that name. When I was a cc runner in high school we had a meet there every season. Nice place. We always beat them :)

I haven't heard of Alpine Valley. Is it southern WI? Maybe it's by Milwaulkee? Steely Dan is awesome. I love the crazy jazz chords in the song, really an awesome atmospheric band, like Pink Floyd. 8) And I think i read somewhere that they do like 150 takes for each song.

It's in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Not far from the border.
And yes, Steely Dan is great, although very different from Pink Floyd. Steely Dan is much more upbeat and makes you feel good, whereas Pink Floyd can put you in a trance....haha.
Donald Fagen is still going strong too. He recently released a new album. They used to be only a studio band, but then started touring in the late 80's or maybe early 90's...can't remember.
