Hello everyone! For my composition class, I´ve decided to undergo a sort of experiment for my final exam piece, and I wanted to use a musical piece as a base for the experiment. I was thinking of using Bach´s invention thirteen, but it´s too long (or better said it has to many notes) I was wondering if anyone could give me a very short piece (the shorter the better) with at least with a clear melody. Thanks fellas

Chopin's Prelude no.7. They don't come much shorter than that (unless you consider educational pieces).

Several of Schubert's Waltzes are just 2 lines. They're very simple in form: First line - the theme; Second line - harmonic or thematic variation of the theme; usually in tonic key.

You can also do a musical question (1st line) followed by a musical answer (2nd line).
