I have a piano student who has just completed her Grade III. I wanted to find some pieces for her to play before she begins her Grade IV. Can anyone give me any recommendations? I was wondering whether there was anything suitable by Mozart, Czerny or Clementi.

I searched the internet and found that Clementi Sonatina No. 3 is at a Level 3 (Whatever that means)

For God's sake not Czerny! Hanon exercises 1-10 might be a good little mechanical etudes, each very short as any purely mechanical piece should be. On the musical side Perhaps Fur Elise or Chopin Prelude no4 in e minor. The C major Mozart Sonata "Facile" might be appropriate. Dare I recommend the easy Chopin polonaise in B-flat? (the one he composed at age 7) Of course the Chopin prelude no7 in A major is good too.

What else...the first C-major prelude from Bach's WTK.

The Clementi Sonatinas Op. 36 are great pieces - the first is almost unavoidable but it's fun to play and a great piece of music (Mozart thought Clementi's music didn't fit the hand well, but those pieces just make my fingers happy!) However, I believe they are considered grade 4 (some googling will probably give you the answer). It's possible one or two movements (especially the slower ones) are appropriate, and they get increasingly difficult, so No.1 might just squeak by.

I'd imagine there are more than a few pieces in Schumann's Album for the Young that are grade 3.

Also, often overlooked is Bartok's For Children - these are deceptive in that they contain modal keys and interesting rhythms (all the songs are based on Eastern European folk music). They may be graded easier than 3, but I think they can be more deceptively difficult if someone has not been exposed to more "modern" music - they are great pedagogical pieces and stand out as musical works in their own right.
