Greetings all,

I am meandering through Schubert's Impromptu #1 from op.90 and came across something I have not seen before.

http://imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/b ... _Op_90.pdf

On the 3rd page, the 3rd bar, measure #4. It looks like a slash through the top of a note stem.

What is it? How do I play it?

Thanks!
-Me

Howdy,

That's just a way of writing a shorthand triplet in this case .... I think editors or maybe composers use it just to look neater.
Anyway, hope that answers question.

According to the following articles, it's called "Tremolo".

From the preceding bars it should be clear that this is just a convenient notation for repeating chords. Schubert does this a lot. Also, listening to the piece would surely have answered the question...
