Perhaps a silly question but I was wondering what people would think of a slightly slower tempo for the D major Sinfonia?

I know most of my favorite artists play this sinfonia very quickly. I know of at least 2 good recordings that play it at a slower tempo, Gustav Leonhardt (1:35) and Wolfgang Rubsam (2:10).

I probably play it closer to Gustav's tempo but maybe without his extraordinary articulation. Admittedly Gustav plays it on a harpsichord so the sound is a bit different. I was curious if you guys thought it was inappropriate to play this sinfonia at this slower tempo on the piano?

It sounds like good idea. Listening back to my own recording clocking at 1:15 it seems almost too jolly and casual. Can't be wrong to take some more time to enjoy the scenery. Bach's music can stand many different approaches, there is no absolute wrong or right. Bit IMO, too slow will be boring and ponderous, so don't overdo it.
