As readers are aware, P.S. is devoted exclusively to live performances, which includes not only recorded performances at a real instrument, but also recorded performances at an electronic keyboard. Minor editing is, I believe, permitted in both instances. Editing at electronic keyboards is typically via "midi" (also known as "sequencing") technology (Cubase, Cakewalk, Reaper,... are a few sequencing brand names.) Real piano recordings, on the other hand, must be editing by audio editing software (Wavelab, Acoustica, Audacity).

It's obvious that when minor edits become "major" ones, what was once a live performance becomes something much closer to a "midi-creation" or "sequenced" music. My WTC 1 is heavily midi-edited and is therefore not (in my view) a live performance. The music was however was solicited by P.S. before the live performance stipulation came into effect and was "grandfathered" as it was deemed still of musical interest.
