Raffaele Terlizzi was born near Naples in 1962. He studied with Giuseppe Cultrera, at the ‘Vincenzo Bellini’ Musical Institute in Catania, where he graduated with highest honours. He continued his studies extensively, in Italy with Sergio Perticaroli, Annamaria Cigoli, Vera Gornostaeva, and in Switzerland, at the Ecole Internationale de Piano in Lausanne, with Fausto Zadra. He attended many masterclasses with Lazar Berman, Gary Graffman, Joaquin Achucarro, Viktor Merzhanov, Hans Graf, Dmitri Bashkirov, András Schiff, Jörg Demus and Nikita Magaloff, and, for Chamber Music, with Paul Roczek and Aquiles Delle Vigne, Henry Meyer (LaSalle Quartet), Franco Gulli and Enrica Cavallo, Vladimir Spivakov and Yehudy Menuhin, at very important and prestigious music Institutions like the Chigiana Academy in Siena, the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneve, the Cursos Internacionales de Piano-José Iturbi in Valencia, the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Colmar, the Konservatorium für Musik in Luzern and in Bern, the MeisterKurse für Musik at the Muraltengut in Zürich, the Internationale SommerAkademie-Universität-Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Conservatoire Royale de Musique in Bruxelles.
He obtained several scholarships, and was a prize winner in various national and international Piano Competitions like the Incontri Internazionali in Senigallia (1980), Città di Messina-Premio ‘E. Coop’, ‘Carlo Vidusso’, ‘S. Rachmaninov’ in Morcone and ‘Vincenzo Bellini’ in Caltanissetta (1982), ‘Città di Roma-Agorà 80’ (1988), the ‘Ibla Grand Prize’ (1993), and, moreover, in national and international Chamber Music Competitions like ‘Città di Acqui Terme’ (1995), ‘Riviera del Conero’ in Ancona (1996), ‘Città di Moncalieri’ and ‘Villa Medicea’ in Prato (1997). In recognition of his high artistic level, he was awarded the ‘Paloma O’ Shea” Plate’ (1982), the ‘Chiostro d’Argento’ and the ‘Premio Mozart’ (Taormina 1991) and, during the last years, at the Aula Magna of the ‘La Sapienza’ University in Rome, the ‘Foyer des Artistes-2000’ International Prize: Gold medal for Merit of Culture, Art and Science and, in 2003, the International Prize ‘Sicilia-Il Paladino’ in Siracusa.
Raffaele Terlizzi has performed numerous successful concertos, giving solo recitals, duo recitals together with his violinist brother Marco, and appearing as soloist with orchestra. He developed an intense activity for many music Associations and Festivals in Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenija, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Chile, Argentina and Japan, playing at the: Colón Theatre (Salon dorado) in Buenos Aires, Auditorium RAI al Foro Italico in Rome, National Philarmonia in Vilnius, Sala Grande of the Verdi Conservatory in Turin, National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Auditorium of Instituto Cultural de Providencia in Santiago de Chile, Sala Bossi of the ‘G.B. Martini’ Conservatory in Bologna, Wiener Saal of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Tiara Concert Hall in Tokyo, as well as in in Paris, Geneve, Bruxelles, Antwerpen, Wien, Osaka, La Plata, Rosario, Cordoba, Milan, Florence, Venice, Naples, Genoa, Trieste, Bari, Cagliari, and Palermo. For the Italian radio and television station RAI, he has recorded famous compositions by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin, and Prokofiev. He is Piano and Chamber Music Professor at the ‘Vincenzo Bellini’ Musical Institute in Catania.
