John Mar was born in Taipei, but has spent most of his life in Australia. He began piano lessons at age of 6, privately at first, but later at the conservatory at his mother’s insistence. John also studied music theory, composition & performance under numerous teachers, including Philida Green.

In early 90’s John won several prizes in local Eisteddfods, and he was awarded a diploma in performance from Australia Music Examination Board.

His favorite composers are Chopin, Liszt, Scriabin & Poortinga.

John is a food chemist by profession. He currently lives in Sydney with his wife and two children.
