Randolph Hokanson studied on scholarship with Harold Samuel, and also with Myra Hess and Carl Friedberg. He toured US and Canada for 8 years under Columbia Artists management. He has performed as soloist under Sir Thomas Beecham, Pierre Monteux, Arthur Fiedler, Walter Susskind, Milton Katims and Stanley Chapple.

During his years as a Professor at the University of Washington he gave over 100 performances, including the complete cycle of Beethoven sonatas.
