Henri Struiwig

Henri Struiwig was born on May 7 th , 1942 at The Hague as son of an industrial merchant. Both parents were excellent amateur pianists.

His first pianolessons he became at the age of five years old. His grandfather, at that time being himself a famous professional trumpeter in The Netherlands encouraged his grandson and made the necessary steps in order to get the young pianist to the “Royal Conservatory for Music” in The Hague . At the age of eleven, the young talent succeeded for his entrance examination of the Royal Consrevatory of Music where he studied in the masterclass of Jan de Man. After his cum laude graduation he lived for a while in Paris . Next to that period he became a student of the famous Chopin pianist “Stefan Askenaze” in Brussels , meanwhile being himself a pianopedagogue at a Dutch Conservatory in the East of The Netherlands until 1978. He is giving concerts all over West en East Europe. He also was the first Dutch pianist to play in the "Great Hall of the Moscow Concervatory". This recital he played on invitation, after first giving a concert in the famous "Pushkin House" museum, his own paraphrase on Sergej Rachmaninov's Opera "Aleko"

We received the sad news that Henri Struiwig died late 2005. Our sympathy goes to his loved ones.
