Hannah Shields

Hannah Shields has performed throughout the United States both as a soloist and a chamber musician. She has appeared in Carnegie Hall as a soloist under the baton of Itzhak Perlman, and has performed in such venues as Weill Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Seattle Opera House, and Boston's Jordan Hall. She has been a top prize winner in many solo competitions, including the 2002 Kosciuszko Chopin Competition.

Highly regarded as a chamber musician, Ms. Shields has collaborated with such distinguished artists as Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Andre Emelianoff, Barbara Stein Mallow, and Kathy Murdock; and she has participated in such music festivals as the Yellow Barn Music Festival, the Banff Chamber Music Festival, the Taos School of Music, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, and the Perlman Chamber Music Workshops. In 2001 she was presented the Carmen Mihalache Dimulescu Memorial Award by the Cleveland Institute of Music, in recognition of outstanding collaborative achievement by a young pianist. In 2004, together with Luis Esnaola and Sébastien Gingras, she founded the Novarte Trio, which was chosen as a resident trio at the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.

Ms. Shields studied with Daniel Shapiro at Cleveland Institute of Music (B.M.), where she was awarded the Arthur Loesser prize for excellence in piano performance. This was followed by graduate studies with Claude Frank at Yale University (M.M.), and further studies with Vivian Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory of Music.

This season Ms. Shields has appeared in solo recitals, in concerts with the Novarte Trio, and in a series of recitals with violinist Kristin Lee -- in locations ranging from Idaho and Maine, to the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
